Job Summary

As a Press Assistant, you will support press operations by preparing materials, monitoring print quality, and assisting with press setup and maintenance. This role plays a key part in ensuring print jobs meet quality standards, production schedules, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect spin jets, mylar, paper, and labels to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Set up press feeders, including sucker position, pile height, side guides, and head stops.
• Apply ink to fountains and add fountain solutions to tanks.
• Run and make-ready sheets; rule up and fold down to ensure correct layout and pagination.
• Assist press operator in inspecting sheets during production for defects such as scumming, hickeys, marking, tinting, slurring, linting, and coating issues.
• Stack and palletize finished sheets to prevent offsetting or damage.
• Perform preventative maintenance including lubrication, roller changes, blanket preparation, and cleaning of water tanks and ink fountains.
• Operate print-related equipment such as ink mixing machines (GIF), load flippers, hand trucks, electric pallet jacks, and forklifts.
• Maintain pressroom cleanliness, chemical labeling per SDS standards, and overall organization.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of previous printing, press assistant, or manufacturing experience preferred.
• HS Diploma/GED required
• Ability to identify print quality issues and attention to detail.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn press operations.
• Ability to safely operate material handling equipment (forklift certification preferred).
• Strong teamwork, communication, and safety awareness.
