POSITION – Welder/Shop Person

JOB LOCATION – Menomonie, WI

STARTING DATE – Immediate

EMPLOYMENT TERM – Temp-to-Hire

EMPLOYMENT TYPE – Full-Time

WORK HOURS (SHIFT) – 1st Shift (6am–4:30pm Monday-Friday, additional OT some Saturdays)

STARTING PAY – $20-25 per hour starting, pay will increase depending on experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION – High School Diploma/GED preferred

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE – MIG Welding Experience at a minimum

The Shop Worker is responsible for prepping, cutting, fabricating, and welding steel according to blueprints and customer specifications. Additional shop duties may include painting, grinding, forklift operation, and general shop maintenance. The employee must be proficient in using basic measuring equipment, including steel rulers and tape measures. Fabrication experience is preferred, along with strong hand tool skills and the ability to work independently. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays if needed.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all established safety policies and procedures.
• Read and interpret drawings, identifying components by part number and diagrams.
• Measure and mark locations for metal components on assembly tables or fixtures.
• Lift and position components on assembly tables or fixtures using overhead cranes.
• Assemble and tack-weld component parts for whole-good frames and other major weldments in preparation for final welding.
• Use portable grinders and hand files to fit parts to welded assemblies and remove rough spots, spatter, and other defects. Apply splatter spray before welding.
• Perform final welds on completed assemblies removed from fixtures.
• Conduct routine maintenance on welding equipment, including wire changes, cleaning, and adjustments.
• Operate material handling equipment, including overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Assist with shop tasks such as grinding, painting, and general maintenance as needed.
• May receive training to operate various fabrication machines.
• Ensure all work meets quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Verifiable welding experience.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings.
• Experience with grinding, painting, and forklift operation preferred.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding job of bending, standing, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling and carrying/moving 50 pounds unassisted and more with assistance.
• Strong commitment to attendance knowing you are scheduled for a minimum of 50 hours per week.
