Job Description:
The press operator works on their assigned shift running a 10 color, wide web, poly film, solvent-based printing press while maintaining safety and quality of the product. The press operator contributes to achieving plant and divisional goals and objectives by supporting BRCGS Food Packaging Safety standards by following procedures, work instructions and ensuring accurate documentation.

Job Description:
The press operator works on their assigned shift running a 10 color, wide web, poly film, solvent-based printing press while maintaining safety and quality of the product. The press operator contributes to achieving plant and divisional goals and objectives by supporting BRCGS Food Packaging Safety standards by following procedures, work instructions and ensuring accurate documentation.
Essential functions:

- Responsible for safety, food safety, quality, and production of the press on their shift.
- Follows standard changeover procedure.
- Properly sets deck rotation for inks, sleeves, and anilox based off the spec sheet.
- Properly selects the correct anilox for a job based off the spec sheet. Properly handles the anilox and changes it correctly in press.
- Ensures correct rotation of printing sleeves and properly installs and removes them from the press.
- Knows how to use the press controls to set-up the run conditions for an item and does so correctly.
- Knows all buttons and settings on the press, what they do, and how to properly use them.
- Understands tension controls and how to set tensions based on substrate being used and width.
- Understands heat settings and how to set heats based on substrate being used and width.
- Can successfully set impression and registration using the EZ Set.
- Can successfully set impression and registration manually.
- Knows and can successfully place print on the web to match specification and PDF.
- Understands how to interpret X-Rite and Techkon readings to manage color.
- Follows proper procedure to decrease the amount of color match down time.
- Works with assistant to ensure ink filters, and ink lids are cleaned correctly during changeovers.
- Properly completes all job approval paperwork.
- Properly reconciles footage issued versus footage off the press every roll.
- Understands the use of bar code reader and can interpret results.
- Understands OPV, how it is applied, and how to measure coat weight correctly.
- Knows how to communicate with material handler on required films, set-up film needed, and removal of printed WIP.
- Runs the press effectively. Gets the most speed possible while maintain safety and quality.
- Follows shift change procedure.
- Understands proper anilox handling and care.
- Correctly rebuilds chambers and follows the chamber rebuild schedule.
- Knows how to use the web guides on the press and knows how to build proper roll profile.
- Understands the differences between substrates.
- Knows how to correctly perform basic press maintenance.
- Understands the different types of sticky back and on what print type they are used.
- Has total understanding of ink properties, ink types, and ink chemistries.
- Has a complete knowledge of all key performance indicators and how each job affects them.
Competencies:
- Working knowledge of computer software to include but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Macola, Wysis, and Filemaker
- Able to lift 50 pounds
Required education and experience:
- High School diploma
- Successful completion of press assistant training program
